On 2022-11-23, VPM Manager Sampath Organised a concall with Ravichandran, Automation head of TN&Kerala. The basic system consists of Main Control Panel near head unit, 4 Inputs or monitoring units, 16 controls units.

The basic unit can control upto 16 valves(each ₹6400). The main control unit costs two lakhs with cloud charges from second year onwards.

We need to run a pair of 1.5sqmm or 0.75sqmm wire from MCU to valves to control them, either through PVC pipes or through 20mm laterals.

Wireless based eight valve control units costs ₹40000. There is also an two valve control unit. Here the wireless units are powered by Solar panel and battery.

Subsurface Drip Irrigation

The problem of root intrusion in Subsurface Drip Irrigation SDI is usually controlled with a periodical injection of herbicide into the water. The herbicide is inserted into the dripper composition preventing root development and subsequent intrusion into the dripper. This is sometimes called RootGuard RG.

In addition, anti-siphon machanism is used along with RG technology. The anti-siphon mechanism prevents suction of water and soil particles into the dripper and the RG technology protects the dripper from root intrusion. The above drippers have been found to be exceptionally resistant to clogging in SDI systems, even with low quality water such as effluent.
