solar pump

A solar pump setup typically includes a DC motor, solar panales, necessary controls. As on 2024-03-24 planning to install the DC motor purchased from RIPS Technology and solar panels purchased from Waree in the Openwell at 17-2 to power the Drip Irrigation for Casuarina crop in 17-2 and if needed to supplement the Coconut at 15-1.

Placed an order for NRV and Disc filter from Shah Agro .

This list of items as given by Electrician Molasur Raja is as follows:

Bought all the above items from Balaji Agencies, Tindivanam.

Testing of Pump

The pump was tested on 2024-04-05 with Mohan around 4:30 PM. Earlier in the day, watched the solar pump installation at Deepak’s farm.

Installation at 17-2

The pump was installed on 2024-04-11 after mounting the Waaree solar panels. The solar panel mounting was custom made by Dhakshanamurthy, royal engineering, Molasur.

Actual use

The pump could be put to use to pump water through the Drip Irrigation only after the arrival of Disc filter and NRV on 2024-04-12 afternoon. The finishing work could only be completed around 5:30pm.

2024-04-14

The pump actually went live today i.e 2024-04-14 . Yesterday purchased pending items like J bolts and bolt-nuts for flanges.

I went to the field, connected an DC ammeter to monitor the current flow. Rewired DC MCB such that input is down and output is up, which is different from the manufacturer manual.

Water was pumped successfully pumped for 3 hours and could support 2 valves.

On 2024-04-15, Mohan called and informed that pump is not pumping water, eventhough current shows around 10A. He had earlier in the previous day, moved the motor as he found it to be much higher in the well.

2024-04-16

Today 2024-04-16, went and checked the volatage. Found it to be above 110V. Current was 10A. But still not much water was getting pumped to the drip line. Even with one valve, not much water was coming out, even from flush valve.

Finally found that the disc filter was jammed with sand. After clearing the filter and removal of 23 rings, system started functioning normally and could support 2 valves. The pump ran for 3+ hours and almost 3 steps became visible i.e btw 4 and 5 ft water was pumped out in nearly 3 hours.

2024-04-20

Water was pumped from 8AM until 13:45 Hrs, nearly for 5:45Hrs to two valves. Openwell water went from 5 steps to all the way to base(Zero).
