Around year 1999, a salary account was opened in ICICI Bank by my first formal employer HCL Infosystems at Mission street Branch. It came with an ATM card. There was an additional ATM near Pondicherry bus stand besides one in the branch.

It was great feeling to withdraw your salary from an ATM machine, instead of receiving cash in an envelope.

In early 2026, activated a secure credit card from ICICI Bank. On the ICICIBank netbanking site, two cards were shown, one Visa(with charges) and another Mastercard(no charges). I chose the card with no joining or annual fees i.e the Mastercard. At the end of process, an Instant credit card was displayed with Mastercard image on it.

While using the card based on the image displayed, found that the card is a Visa instead of Mastercard. Oracle website rejected the card number as invalid based on the starting number. The transaction succeeded after changing the card type as Visa.

Not sure why the displayed image was a Mastercard, when the actual card was a Visa.

I have been trying to get a credit card mainly to setup an account with oci . This is mainly both from learning purpose and the constant need to lookup for information stored on the desktops.
